This is the Son of God

baptism in Brasil

Today’s Verse: John 1:34 “I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God. NASB

What an amazing thing to have pass over ones lips. It must have been beyond description for John the Baptist to see the prophesies concerning the Christ to come to fruition right there before his very eyes. The Son of God requesting to be baptised by John not for forgiveness of any personal sin, but rather to set the example for all who would follow that their sins might be washed away. What John the Baptist said that day as witness before all who would hear is ours today as well. We are to stand up before the people of our age and declare the same truth. Bible in hand, we declare that this Jesus was indeed the Christ, the Son of the only living and true God. He came that all who would accept the terms of peace might be saved for eternity from the judgment for sin. So, we have the same task today as did all those who have gone before–to witness to the fact the Jesus is the Son of God, Savior.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  1. In my studies on ‘Why Jesus was baptized’ I came across another reason that helped answer that question more completely for me.

Jesus was baptized because He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood.

He was priest after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4; Heb. 5:8-10; 6:20). Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin (1 Pet. 2:24; 2 Cor. 5:21) in His role as priest.

To be consecrated as a priest, He had to be:

Washed with water (Lev. 8:6; Exodus 29:4, Matt. 3:16).
Anointed with oil (Lev. 8:12; Exodus 29:7; Matt. 3:16).
Both of these were bestowed upon Jesus at His baptism.
(Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit -1 John 2:20,27)

Additionally, He may have needed to be 30 years old – (Num. 4:3)

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. -Amos 3:7

  2. Great point. Mine was a bit simplistic. Thanks for the additional information on the importance of Jesus’ role as High Priest under the new covenant.

  3. I need help with lust. Please pray with me and send me things to help over come this weakness.
Thank you and may God keep you.
