Die that you may be joined to Another

Today’s Verse: Romans 7:4 Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. NASB

It would be less than honest to not tell that last night I did not sleep well at all. This afternoon we go in to the oncologist to hear the results of the PET scan which should tell whether any cancer remains after the last six months of chemo treatments. Most days I don’t give it much thought knowing that God is in control. It is not always that easy to wait for news like this. Thanks for your prayers. I found this wonderful verse this morning. What depth of the gospel message and of God’s will are contained in this one verse. The apostle Paul has just compared the covenant to the Law to the marriage covenant. If one breaks the marriage covenant it is adultery. However, if the spouse dies, the survivor is released from their vows. The comparison then is to death to the old life before one can be made new in another covenant. Jesus died that there is for all an opportunity to die to the old self and sin and be restored in covenant through Him. Baptism is an amazing portrayal of that transaction is it not? We die to sin, are buried, forgiven and raised to a new life and new covenant relationship with God by Christ’s sacrifice. For what then are we reborn? That we might have a restored relationship with God certainly, but also “that we might bear fruit for God”. Let us have thankful hearts for this day with which we have been blessed that we might be fruitful for God in it!

May God bless your heart as you seek His.
