Be warmed and be filled!

help-button

Today’s Verse: James 2:15-16 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? NASB

How often are we guilty of this? Someone shares their needs and we pray “God bless you with what you need”. Just maybe God sent them to us to bless them with what they need. Here I am not talking about chronic street corner beggars. To give them money is certainly enabling behavior. Although to give them some food or a coat helps meet the needs of the moment. Here I am addressing the requests that we often hear in the prayer requests at church for a member of the body. People do often respond. It warms my heart to hear of someone being given a car or truck from a member quietly to meet a spoken need for transportation. Or you hear of people who week in and week out make extra food up and get it to those who need it. We are called as the body of Christ to not just “pray” for the needs of others, but to help meet their needs. Pray yes, that God would heal or move in their lives in some big way. But then, maybe offer to babysit while they attend a Bible class or job interview, take by some food out of the overflow of blessing in your life. Demonstrate God’s love for someone else in a tangible way today.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  1. Hi Bryan. this is another good message. All that matters in this world is the love we show others as we allow Christ to work through us. Why would we hold onto to anything that is going to one day perish?? Helping others through the power of Christ who lives in us will earn riches in the kingdom that has no end. For the truth is always that you can only keep that which you give away!
