After the Flood

Today’s Verse: Genesis 11:10 “These are the records of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old, and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood;”  NASB

It is interesting how we measure time often based on some external event in our lives. My parent’s house burned down in the early eighties. Fortunately, no one was home and the losses were just material. However, many family keepsakes like photo albums, pastels of the children and so on were just gone. For all the years since, everything in our family was reckoned to either before or after the fire. We would be looking for something and the answer all too often was, “Oh, that went in the fire”. In this verse, as would make sense, time is reckoned to The Flood. All but the eight souls on the ark were lost. All animals and things except those on the ark were lost. Of course they counted all things for years to come from the new start in their lives. People often refer to their lives before and after taking on Jesus as Lord and Savior. Especially those who are baptized as adults. They have a clear reckoning between the sinful old self and the new life in Christ. What a joyful benchmark in ones life. As good as that is, can you imagine when Jesus returns and we all go with Him to eternity in heaven. What a day that will be. We will no longer be even counting the days, but just be satisfied to sing praises to the Father and bask in His glory for eternity. Wonderful.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  1. As I look back on my life, it is strange that nothing I did before I was saved matters in the least! It was only after God’s power and strength lived in me that the real purpose of my life became clear. My old life died in the flood of my tears as I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior!
