Remove all things from the face of the earth

fire

Today’s Verse: Zephaniah 1:2 “I will completely remove all things from the face of the earth,” declares the Lord. NASB

I stopped by the grocery store this morning to get some coffee for the church building. While I waited in the line at the only open register, I perused all the bizarre magazine selections on the racks. One story was that Bush had fallen into a deep depression from paranoia that Obama was out to get him. Another had the whole front cover with a story of something like “All Biblical end times prophesies to come true in March 2009.” Yikes! I thought the Mayans and Nostradamus had given us until 2012. Apparently the paper’s “sources” had devised some new numbering code which had revealed this shocking truth. What do you think they will have on the cover in April? I can’t wait. In today’s verse, Judah’s world is the topic of God’s judgment. Once again the Jews had fallen into a kind of syncretism and idol worship. It is rather interesting how many today seem to treat the God of the Old Testament and God of the New Testament as if they are mutually exclusive. For some reason they cannot fathom how God’s just nature can coexist with His loving and gracious nature. I wouldn’t suggest you cash in what’s left of your 401k and have a big party before “the end” in March. However, it is always prudent to reflect on what we believe, whose we are and whether how we are living is consistent with His commands. The end is coming some day. It might be a good time to use this not so subtle reminder to take a candid personal spiritual inventory. Are you ready?

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  2. Good Post. Just came across your site. Food for thought. We’re not guaranteed the next heart beat. ‘Readiness is paramount.’ But we likely are in the final generation of measured time.

1th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

1th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

1th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness

1th 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
