Rivers of living water

Today’s Verse: John 7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” NASB

Jesus is speaking here of the Holy Spirit. We know that because the scripture tells us just that in the very next verse. Although His disciples were not quite sure what or who He was talking about at this moment, they certainly would on the day of Pentecost. As Christians, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. We know that because of verses like Acts 2:38. As one of my favorite instructors once said, “We don’t need some quiver in our liver.” We know that the same way we know all things pertaining to God’s will for our life. We find it in His word. Anything else is man-made religion. So, when we are indwelt by His Spirit, Jesus says that we will have the Spirit flowing forth from within us like rivers of living water. What kind of picture does that bring to mind? Is your walk consistent with that picture? All to often we let the everydayness of everyday get in the way of allowing God’s Spirit to flow forth from within us. Yet that is the very thing Jesus says was meant to mark those who are His. Are we maturing the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23 in our lives? When people come in contact with us in our everyday lives, are they overwhelmed by the river of living water that is the Spirit flowing from within us? Today, focus on letting Christ’s Spirit flow from your heart into the lives of those around you and see if  your life and theirs are blessed.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  1. I like what you wrote here: “We know that the same way we know all things pertaining to God’s will for our life. We find it in His word. Anything else is man-made religion.”

But, I have a question for you.
What are your thoughts about my blog entry about Yeshua HaMashiach?

    Thank you,

    James 2:1-13
    1 Timothy 4:16
    Luke 15:4
    1 Timothy 1:3-7
    Titus 1:9

  2. I agree that this world is very distracting and sometimes its hard to keep focusing on God. But you’re right what you said here and in your comment on my blog. We need to be the light of the world, the light in the world, that people look at amidst all the chaos and distraction and wonder what is different. We want them to say, “What is it that you have, and where can I get some?”

I want to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that rivers of living water to flow out of me too! Bless you, Bryan. Jenny

  3. Great blog and hope to have some time soon to come back and read more!
