Abide in the vine

vine-inspector

Today’s Verse: John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. NASB

As we ponder the last year and look into the next, one thing we must not fail to take into account is our abiding. Are we securely attached to Christ as the vine and receiving our strength and nurture from that relationship as much as we should? Or, are we acting like a branch that is on its own just returning to the vine once a week for a fix? Rather than running the risk of rationalizing our reality, let’s simply be candid before God about actual results in the last year. How much fruit was produced from our efforts in Him? If we are abiding in Him, we would be spending at least some time daily in prayer, some time daily in His word, some time fellowshipping with other believers, some time sharing the gospel message through Bible studies and witnessing and we would spend some time in personal ministry to others. Jesus says that if we are abiding in Him, we will bear much fruit. If you were a fruit inspector, what would be the grade you would put on your abiding results in the last year?  What are some areas that you need to pay more attention to as you go into another year in Him?

May God bless your heart and ministry as you seek to abide in Him in the coming year.
