Love that grows ever greater

friends

Today’s Verse: 2 Thessalonians 1:3 “We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;”  NASB

We started a monthly coffee fellowship for the group we call Golden Agers this past year and it was really well received. The test for whether you qualify for the group is that you or one of your children are eligible for a senior discount at restaurants. At any rate, it has been a fun group to get together with and they always bring the best goodies to go with the coffee. At the first one we had, one of our dearest members commented how much she had enjoyed the fellowship. She went on to say that she had especially enjoyed getting to know one particular couple better. She said, “It was fun finally getting to know them. I have been looking at the back of their heads in church for years.” The apostle Paul is encouraging the Christians in Thessalonica for not just loving each other, but for a love that “grows ever greater.” We can say that we love each other because we are brothers and sisters in Christ. We cannot grow ever greater in our love for each other if we don’t know each other, spend time in prayer together and work alongside in ministry. The larger the congregation, the more difficult this becomes. Think of someone in your local body that you do not know very well, but would like to. Call them, drop them a note or have them over for coffee and dessert. Begin the steps to be one who is growing in their love for each other. It is very contagious!

May God bless your heart as you seek His.
