No, no, no!!!

Today’s verse: Colossians 2:21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” NASB

It is human nature at its most basic to reject being told we cannot do something, isn’t it? In fact, if you tell my inner child it cannot do something, that’s the very thing that I seem almost incapable of resisting. That’s why the dreaded “double-dog dare” is so effective I think. There is this  selfish desire to do what we have been forbidden combined with the peer pressure to do it, even though our own weakness and lack of self esteem is revealed as being so easily manipulated, we fail, fall…you know, do it. Whatever “it” happens to be. So many people’s myopic view of God is through this lens of some forbidding creator who sits in judgment and wants to spoil all the fun by telling us “it”  is sin and the answer is predictably no, no , no. Incredibly, the opposite of that is the truth in terms of both God’s personal interest in our well-being and desire for us to live joyous purposeful and meaningful lives. However, Satan has been practicing his deception and preying on people’ selfish desire to reject being told no even when it is in their best interest for quite  a while and can be very convincing. In Christ, we are freed from bondage to sin and the destruction it heaps on lives broken by the consequences of sin. Self esteem takes blow after blow from knowing that we have failed to live up to the best God puts forth for His beloved children. Satan wants to tear us down. God wants to use us for good purposes and to have a loving relationship with Him today. As we mature, hopefully, we are able to discern the difference between a wet blanket and a genuine concern for our eternal spiritual well being.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.
