Let us not lose heart

gold-star

Today’s Verse: Galatians 6:9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. NASB

Some time ago, a wonderful church member was confiding in me that they were just about through with trying to do things around the church for others. They were feeling worn out and frankly unappreciated. This is not someone who helped move chairs one time and felt they had done their bit for the year. This member’s family was one who whether the building was open or not, were always around doing something with the hearts of true servants. They didn’t need or desire a gold star and like most folks with the gift of service, did not desire public recognition. The problem was that every time they did something, the “nit pickers” would come through and find something to point out that is “wrong” or at least not how they would have done it. To someone doing things out of the love of their heart for no reason but to serve in Christ, nit pickers literally empty the joy out of the doing. I understand the problem. You can get ten compliments, but it is an unfortunate quirk of human nature to remember and dwell on the one criticism received, isn’t it? You can say things like, “Consider the source” and so on, but the reality is that it hurts and makes you think twice before you volunteer to help again. I am sincerely not sure if these nit pickers think they are helping by throwing in their two cents worth, but efforts to actually lend a helping hand in a timely manner would be more appropriate and encouraging. If you are the nit picker, quit it. If you are the beaten down servant with the arrows in your back, today’s verse is just for you from your heavenly Father who sees all you do and appreciates every bit of it just how you did it.

As always, may God bless your heart as you seek His.

  1. That was a message that I needed to hear. Too often we focus in on things people say or do against us when actually we are affirmed in Christ.
It is tough to keep doing when it seems no one cares or appreciates. But you are so right to remind us that the heavenly Fatrher sees ALL that we do and he does not forget! Praise God.
