To the Pure all Things are Pure

Today’s Verse: Titus 1:15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. NASB

How can we maintain purity in an impure world? The world is not just passively impure either, is it? We are surrounded by those whose stock-in-trade is impurity. It is on bumper stickers, rear windows on pickups, billboards, in magazine ads, on TV and in the movies. They’ve got us surrounded. Are we still offended by all that or have we succumbed to the numbness that accompanies years of being barraged with impure messages. Other than the technology involved in the delivery and convenience today of impurity, nothing has really changed since this verse was penned in the first century. There were purveyors of impurity to be found even then. That’s the point of this stern warning. I wonder how many impure messages a day we receive whether consciously or subliminally? Tens, hundreds, thousands? How are we to tune that junk out and counteract it with what is pure and still live in the world? Well, we cannot retreat into a small protective bubble and still be effective as those carrying the message of salvation to a lost and dying world. Maybe blinders and earplugs? What is this verse talking about? How can we possibly live in purity to the point that all is pure to us? It is a heart issue. If we are consciously and conscientiously maintaining pure hearts, we will reject and bounce our eyes and ears away from the impure. We must continually be filling our hearts and minds with that which is pure from God’s word. If Satan and all his willing minions in the world in which we are to walk as aliens throw impurity in our path, we need to have a shield of God’s word and pure thoughts and scripture to focus on in our minds and hearts. It is not saying that we can imbibe in the impure and remain pure. Certainly if we allow our heart and mind to be corrupted, there is nothing we can do that is acceptable to God. There is not a place for both the pure and the impure in the fount of our hearts. The impure pollutes and corrupts. There is no joy or reward for those who attempt to straddle the fence between worldliness and purity. The witness of the church is fallow for this very reason. Make a decision right now to shield your heart from the impure and ask God to help you confess, cleanse and clear out the impure strongholds that remain in you. Strive, struggle, demand and fight so as to keep yourself pure. Your reward will be joyful and unashamed living that witnesses for God’s goodness to all those around you. Your pure light will shine and it will draw those who seek Him even though they might not even know why.

May God bless your heart as you seek His.

  5. I don’t know what’s up, but I am seeing my avatar on other people’s comments. Don’t know why. Ah, technology. I think I’ll spend my time on something better than chasing that down and maybe it will self correct. Bryan
