The Record

Today’s Verse: Matthew 1:1 The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham: NASB

Thus opens the New Covenant between God and man. So much said connecting to so much history and preparation all come to fruition in such few but deep and meaning-filled words. The contention that Jesus is indeed the one who was descended from King David and from Abraham was more than many in that day and even now can accept. Yet here in this light of the opening of God’s revelation completed in His Son, we are connected to the history of mankind. God first mentioned in Genesis 3:15 that this seed would rule. Again in His two-part covenant with Abraham He makes an unconditional promise concerning the blessing of all the nations through this seed (Gen 12:3; 22:18). Through King David’s son Nathan (Lk 3:31), now comes the one whom all history and God’s movement among His people for centuries comes into clear focus. As the narrative of the days on earth of the life of Jesus unfolds, it is almost as if history had been holding its breath until that moment. God has predestined all this to happen even before creation. That is the amazing part to me. God knew that I would rebel against His will in sin and need a Savior. Even before I was created He had made provision for my restoration to His presence through this Jesus. And now, as His children in Christ we are part of the story. But then again, in a way, we always have been. We are connected to the Bible narrative as part of God’s continuing revelation. He has chosen us as His church to tell forth the good news that a Savior has paid the price for peace between a rebellious people and their Creator, if they choose to accept the terms of peace. What an amazing Father and Son that they would do that for us. What shall we lay before them in return today?

May God bless your heart as you seek His.
