Do not be persuaded

Today’s Verse: Colossians 2:4 I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument. NASB

Biblical illiteracy is a chronic problem in the church today. So many who have heard the gospel truth are then persuaded by clever arguments to stray from it. There is always some gimmick, easy beliveism not excluded, that will help those who want to have it both ways in their lives. They want the “guarantee” that they are saved, yet they separate His Lordship from His salvation. To attempt such is an anathema to Biblical truth. But alas, it lies for far too many buried like treasure unsought in Bibles that are left on shelves, gold leaf intact. If we truly believed that the Bible was God’s word, who could keep us from it? For that would be the most fantastic news that I could imagine. There is a God who created us for a purpose and that purpose is revealed in His word. One would expect a rather long line to form for such. Indeed, where it is difficult to get copies of the Bible in places such as China today, people are willing to sacrifice just to have an opportunity to see a Bible and read from it. So, is it the mere availability of God’s word that has created such a blasé reaction to such a profound truth? Possibly so. We need to persist in helping people see that God’s word is relevant to our everyday lives. We need His word in our hearts and minds so as to serve Him as He desires, not as we define service as it is convenient. Do we look to His word for answers to our daily struggles? Do we look to His word each day for strength and guidance? Most of us fall a bit short in this regard at times. Paul says that the only way that we can keep from being fooled by the enemy is to stay in the truth. Let’s renew the commitment to God’s word and treasure it for what it is; God’s very words to us, available all day long everyday.

  1. I know some days I want it both ways. When I seeking answers I do search God’s Word. I can’t say I don’t beat my head against the wall too many times before I go to God.
