“Today”

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 55:6 Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. NASB

I remember when I was a kid that all the older folks would always talk about how times flies. To me, the only time that flew was the last weeks of summer vacation. Now that I have joined the class known as older folks (not sure as to when that actually happened), I can see what they meant by time’s rapid passing. 21, 33, 40, 50, kids, grand kids… yikes. I can remember thinking of how old I would be when the turn of the century would come. In my childish understanding of time, being 47 was incomprehensible. Yet zoom, that has come and gone like a fast passing train. There are some important things that we simply must accomplish in our lives. Everybody’s “bucket list” is no doubt very different, but some of these are worldly things and some are eternally relative. A decision about God in your life is one that can easily be put off like so many other “round-tuits”, yet there is only one day, one time when we can actually make that decision to continue in rebellion or to choose God’s way for our lives. Today is the day. We can no longer do anything about yesterday and tomorrow is yet out of reach. That is what today’s verse is about. If there ever was limited time offer, God’s is just that. Once we draw that last breath in this life, the die is cast. No second chances. Like so many decisions, we can certainly put the “God” decision off, but here indecision is an accountable decision. “Wait” is the same as “no” when the curtain closes. For each of us it is a different time and circumstance, yet for each it is a decision that predicates our eternal destination. Denying truth does not make it untrue. Maybe you have been putting off the decision to accept God’s offer of salvation in Christ Jesus, or maybe you have been putting off being obedient to His will in your life beyond baptism. I would simply repeat the verse for today, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”

Thank You Lord for drawing near to us even when we were in rebellion against Your will in our lives. Thank You for loving us too much to leave us that way. Amen.

  1. Great message. Time does pass us quickly and today is the day to decide if we are going to follow Jesus. If we can’t live for Him today what in the world makes us think we will decide on this important issue “some day.” We are all a heartbeat away from eternity and now is the time to choose.
