Many Other Things

Today’s Verse: John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world its self would not contain the books that would be written. NASB

What an interesting thought. I would love to read those books and learn of the “many other things” He did, wouldn’t you? I for one cannot get enough of reading about Him and what He did and said. The point is however, that we have all that we need already. Yes, it would be encouraging and exciting to hear about all that, but the apostle John has already said that “these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ…” (John 20:30-31) The Pharisees irritated Jesus on several occasions where they just wanted to see more miracles, just to see them. Not that what He had done was insufficient, they were just there for the show, to be entertained, not changed. Maybe we need to pause and peer deep into our motives that would drive a desire on our part to have more to read. John says it would no doubt be fascinating, but more of the same. We have a human tendency in the first place that wants to lean more towards being just hearers only. Each time some new ancient manuscript is unearthed, or as it were re-rediscovered, everyone clamors about desiring to see if there is some “new” truth we did not have as yet. There needs be no additional prophesy or truths revealed. We have it all and it is all that we need. Even now the trap is to spend a lifetime learning about Jesus and never doing anything with the sufficient knowledge and eye witness testimony we have at our fingertips. Let’s ask God to give us whatever it is that we lack within ourselves so that we can as faithful disciples speak forth to all we know of the goodness and mercy of our loving Father and Savior. How many have you shared the gospel with in the last year? Do you have a list of unsaved people you pray for on a regular basis? Please don’t just sink down into your chair.

Lord, please put someone in my path today that I can share with about You. Put on my heart the names of lost sheep I can be praying for and seeking opportunity to minister to as a means to share. Work in their hearts and mine. Thank you for delaying that more might come to salvation in Your Son. Amen.
