Deal or No Deal?

Today’s Verse: Romans 15:8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. NASB

Although the transfer of title was to have taken place at closing sometimes there is some confusion on the part of the seller as to the fact that ownership has changed hands. The seller agreed to the price paid and received the payment which paid off the debt owed and then some. Yet the seller at times acts as if the transaction had never taken place. They wake up in the morning and walk right through their day as if they were still the sole owner of that which was tendered. If someone had sold you a house and you had paid, signed all the requisite documents and taken possession of the keys, how would you receive the former owner if they insisted on acting as if the sale had not taken place? In effect, when we offered ourselves into the authority of Christ transference of ownership took place. We received salvation and the assurance of eternity with the Father as payment in full and we ceded over ownership to His Lordship as Master. How many of us however, like the denying seller show up many days wanting to act as if no exchange has taken place? Do you ever think about your ownership in those terms? Were you aware that you made a deal? Do you have seller’s remorse? I hope not. The apostle Paul has the right idea here. Regardless of whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s possession to do with what He wills. Far too many professing Christians, those who claim to belong to Christ, want to have His salvation and yet act as if they have retained lordship over their lives. What a shallow understanding that represents of what it is to be a disciple serving the Master. Does merely claiming that Jesus is Lord make it so or does He require obedience to His will? Have you recognized His ownership of your life today?

Lord, I confess that all too often I want it both ways. I desire the assurance of my salvation, but have mentally separated that from Your Lordship as my owner and Master. Thank You for the forgiveness received. Help me behave this day in alignment with Your will and not my own. Amen
