Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Audio Version: seeking-gods-heart-philippians-1_12

Today’s Verse: Philippians 1:12 Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, NASB

Have you ever just stopped, looked around and asked yourself, “What in the world am I doing here?” My mom certainly asks me that question every once in a while. She emails me asking, “What in the world is a good Texas boy like you doing in Central California?” I can remember when we first arrived, pretty much every morning began with, “Are we really in California?” It is interesting that if we place our lives fully in His hands how things develop. Once the decision was made to follow His leading, it was a bit like jumping into a fast moving river; seemingly one minute working in High Tech in Austin and the next preaching in California. There was a stop along the way for preaching school and preaching at a wonderful West Texas congregation all of which ended, for now, in California. What is God up to? When you begin to wake up with anticipation wondering how He will use your circumstances and availability today, it makes life in Christ real and exciting. A good friend and reader of this devotional kept asking himself that same question when he found himself working at Walmart as a greeter. God’s answer after a year or so is at least one co-worker baptism and ongoing Bible study with several others. Go figure. If you are struggling in your current circumstance, try turning the whole thing a “quarter turn” and try to get God’s perspective on things. He may be using you to touch people’s lives that will impact their eternity. You indeed may be the only Christian they really know. A bit scary for sure, but what an opportunity.  Don’t like where you are? God is in the change business. Talk to Him about it. What in the world are you doing where you are? Don’t ask me, but God has a plan and if we’ll just jump in with both feet, He’ll use us right where we are or put us where He needs someone just like us. Let Christ shine forth through you today into the lives all around you wherever you are…even Walmart or California, all for the “greater progress of the gospel.”

  1. You are like a breath of fresh air, my brother-in-Christ. God has blessed you to share his word with us.
