Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Audio Version: seeking-gods-heart-mark-16_7

Today’s Verse: Mark 16:7 “But go tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.'” NASB

Well the “hands-free” cell phone law has now come into force. People can only use a hands free device while talking on the phone in their cars. Since I have spent so much time making fun of those “Star Trek” things people are wearing on their ears, I am avoiding hypocrisy by not buying any hands free accessories. I have found however that I get a sort of Pavlovian physical reaction when my phone goes off while I am driving and I can’t answer for fear of the $96 first violation. It makes me hearken back to a question we often ask ourselves, “What did we do before we had cell phones?” Last year while we were in Singapore, we were reminded of just what we did before cell phones. One evening, we set out in two groups to go to the top of a nearby hill to catch a gondola ride out to an island just off the coast for some sightseeing. Unfortunately, the other group was not sure of the directions and the cabbie delivered them to the mall down the hill where you can also catch the gondola. We sat waiting, more or less patiently, at the top thinking they would be there any minute as promised. After about an hour, we went back to the hotel. As it turns out, they rode the gondola to the island, but with out cell phones we had no way of knowing where they were. So, what we used to do before cell phones was miss each other, stand around waiting for people who were not going to show up and grind our teeth. The angel that met the women on the road that wonderful Sunday morning when Jesus was resurrected from the grave proved again that He could and would do what He promised. He had foretold that He would rise up on the third day… and He did. He now told them to send the disciples to Galilee where Jesus said He would meet them. Just as He promised, He met them there. He told them that proof of His ascension to the heavenly throne would be the coming of the Holy Spirit. Sure enough, fifty days later on another beautiful Sunday morning, the Holy Spirit arrived with power. (Acts 2) Jesus keeps His appointments and promises. We don’t need to worry about what we will do if He forgets or is running late or rides a cab to the wrong place. He promised that He will return for His church, the saved. We just need to be busy doing what He told us to do and know that we don’t need to check on Him. He will do what He promised. What a glorious day for God’s children that day will be!
