Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Audio Version: seeking-gods-heart-lev-19_9

Today’s Verse: Leviticus 19:9 Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. NASB

Generosity is a godly attribute. What good thing does He not give? What sacrifice has He held back from us? We are to be a generous people in like kind to our Father. Someone told me when I was younger that I should give ten percent of everything I make to God, ten percent to savings and live on the eighty percent left over and I would never have want. My math is better than I tend to let on. I actually do understand the difference in eighty percent and one hundred and ten percent. If only I had applied that, I would not have to work until, I estimate at this point, I am ninety-three years old. We learn at a very early age, i.e. as soon as we take our first breath, to be self-focused. It is all about us and our needs, both today’s and those in the foreseeable future. However, as we grow, we are supposed to learn to share. That’s hard for most kids and many adults.

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. (Philippians 2:3-4)

Do you know some people who live this out in their lives? It is an inspiration to see those who truly take it to heart and put others needs ahead of their own. The world would make them out to be suckers or doormats. They say, “Look at all the stuff you could have had if you had not given so much away to God’s work.” However, the world will not be there as judge in that last day. Jesus’ word alone will judge us. If we give as we receive, in abundance, then we are acting in Christ’s likeness. Out give God? Go ahead and try.

  1. And here’s another challenge: Can we give anonymously?? Where is that verse that says “the right hand doesn’t need to know what the left hand is doing”? Now there’s a real test of our hearts!!

Thanks for a great article. This world only makes sense when we are giving. We’ll never match the ultimate giver of course, but we can try to follow His example to live an unselfish life.
