Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Audio Version: seeking-gods-heart-1-corinthians-15_49

Today’s Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:49 Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly. NASB

Kids and parents alike get used to people trying to figure out which parent the child looks most like. Some will say, “Oh little Suzie looks just like her mother.” Or something like, “He has his father’s eyes.” This ritual can actually be a bit amusing for adopted kids and step-children. It can also be a heart warming thing for them since they consider themselves family regardless of their bio origins. When I was younger, I used to hear the preacher or Bible school teachers tell how we were made in God’s image. It was a bit confusing for me as I looked around and saw so many different looking people. It is easy to understand that people would wonder which of us looks the “most” like Him. What I did not understand at the time was that God is spirit and it is that part of us that is indeed eternal that He made to “look” like His image. You can’t see spirit however. You can see fruit of the person’s spirit. You might hear someone say, “She is such a gentle spirit.” What they mean is that she acts gently. As Christians, we are to grow into the likeness of our brother Christ Jesus. He is God personified, Emanuel, God with us. As sort of spiritual trackers, we are search for His footsteps and walk in them. When we become more accomplished at that, we begin to look more like our heavenly Father as well. Jesus said, “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.” (John 14:7) When people see you begin to walk and talk like Jesus, they begin to see a family resemblance. When people look at us, we want them to see Jesus. Our prayer today should be that someone will see in us our Father’s eyes, our Father’s heart. There is no higher compliment or desire for us who are His.
