Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Entry for April 30, 2008

Today’s Verse: 1 Peter 4:11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as the one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. NASB

I think we might all talk a little less, a little slower if we took this verse seriously. We would likely think longer and harder about that which we busy our days with if we really believed this is so. Saying that we do all for God’s glory rolls right off the tongue so easily. I don’t doubt intent, but God doesn’t judge solely on intent, but rather action and outcome. Is how we are planning on living out this day done so with the direct thought of glorifying God in it and through it? Did any of us wake up this morning and determine to spend our day glorifying God? Well, I certainly hope some did, but most did not. Which one are you? It is not too late. As long as it is “today” it is not too late. So if you were not on the right track for today, let’s think of some way to begin again and to remember each day what we are to be about. Let’s see, we want to live each day as to glorify God. We could ask, “What would Jesus do?”, but that is a bit passe. We could tie a string around our finger, but that might create a lot of questions by others we may not want to answer. We could write “GG” on the fridge door or bathroom mirror for Glorify God! Or not. But why is it that we are struggling to remember the very thing that is to be our very purpose for living and breathing as His children in this New Covenant with Him? How is it that we have come so far and yet can’t seem to be focused on the single most important facet of serving Him? Good question, huh? Is our life today different from the life those in the world around us are living? Is our purpose different? It is time to be honest with God about this one. It is about time for some to get refocused. Father, I pray that you will find us focused on glorifying You through everything we do today. Amen indeed.
