Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Entry for April 16, 2008

Today’s Verse: Acts 6:7 The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith. NASB

Some of you will no doubt remember the former ruthless and perverse military leader of Panama, Manuel Noriega. He was removed from power by US forces and placed in an underground prison in Florida. He had used his power to gain individual wealth at the cost of the people he was supposed to be leading. All manner of horrible stories of how he had opposition executed and other atrocities surfaced after his fall. He was a bad guy. A few years after that, he had slipped from the front page and the memories of most. A friend of a friend in Dallas felt moved to try to contact him. After quite an effort, he was able to get in touch and ultimately sent Noriega a Spanish language Bible. As the story goes the friend was able to meet with Noriega and he ultimately gave his life over to Jesus and has become a changed person. Jesus love and blood can make changed hearts in the hardest of people. We tend to think of some people as being beyond redemption. Maybe some people thought that of some of us, yikes! Jesus certainly was on the attack with the religious leaders of His day for their lack of heart. We see here however, that “many” Jewish priests became faithful Christians. For instance, who would have figured Saul of Tarsus would turn around from Christian killer to become willing to give his life for the cause of the gospel? Someone, I’ll bet, prayed for you even before you gave your life to Christ. Let’s never forsake praying even for our enemies, those who appear to be beyond redemption and people who everyone else has given up hope on. They may yet reach that point in their life when the light of Christ can shine into their dark hearts and turn their life completely around. Pray hard for today just might be their day of salvation!
