Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Entry for April 10, 2008

Today’s Verse: Matthew 25:13 “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.” NASB

How many over the years have tried unsuccessfully to predict the unpredictable? I am amused with all the media clamor about this poll or that poll and what they reveal about what is likely to happen, that is given a statistical margin of error of +/- 5%. I frankly don’t remember much of my statistics studies, but I do remember that +/- 5% is grossly unacceptable in terms of accuracy to base any but the grossest of decisions on, if any. Better, none. There also have been many outspoken so-called prophets who repeatedly predict the year, and some the date, for the end. Doesn’t the scripture tell us that if a prophet’s prophesy fails, it is not of God? (Jer 28:9) Yet, those seeking the answers to such things continue to be drawn to them like bugs to a bug light. If you really want to draw a crowd, put an ad in the paper saying you are teaching on “End Times Prophesies”. Even better, promise to predict the end. Does it really matter? Shouldn’t we be living today as if it were the last? Just read Matthew 25. Keep your lamp lit and filled, be found using your talents to the best of your ability, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, provide hospitality to those in need, visit those in prison, visit the sick and give clothes to those in need. Oh yeah, tell someone about Jesus’ love. That should do it for today. (Note to self: Get busy!)
