Seeking God’s Heart- by Bryan Shelley

Entry for March 31, 2008

Today’s Verse: 1 Timothy 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. NASB

I have been reading a few other people’s writings lately on in the different sections on religion, Christianity and the like. As a result, I get people who return the favor by reading my devotionals. It is interesting and uplifting in the main, but at times disturbing to see what thoughts some share. There is either by implication, reality or imagination a response to Christian dialog as being everything from preachy to unconscionable guilt slinging. For my part, as I replied to a really sweet comment from a reader yesterday, I hope to get forgiveness from you if I do come off as preachy on occasion. My intent is to be thought provoking and encouraging as we all attempt to grow in Christ’s likeness. Yes, we stumble, say wrong things, and even act impatiently at times with the very ones we are to be loving. I find that most of the devotionals chosen to share here are written because of my personal need for meditation, prayer and growth in that particular area. The assumption is that others might need encouragement and prayer in those same areas. We cannot be so naive as to think that the truth of the Bible will not irritate and even anger some in their striving to live in a world presuming all truths to be equal. How dare we put forth the idea that there does exist a truth that will not change regardless of the onslaught of the best that man has to cast its way? That is the quality of truth. It is not relative. It is unchanging. I pray that in my way, fellow pilgrims seeking truth in their lives will with me find encouragement and the assurance of hope we find in Christ to be a positive light in a dark place rather than some perceived threat. The truth is that Christ came into this world to save sinners like me, and you, if you will. Forgive if I fail to show love and offer blessings to even those who would disagree, as we are called to do. As we often stumble through our days, even as we try to live as Christ, let us always remember that of all sinners, each of us rank among the worst, as sin is sin. There may be more consequence for some than others, but one sin and we require God’s grace if we desire to be reconciled to Him. I do. Lord, please give me more of Your grace, strength and wisdom that I may live as a reflection of Your love in the world. God bless you, everyone.

  1. Wonderful site, and thank you for the comment – I posted a reply beneath it on my post. It is refreshing to have people in the Kingdom of God who are willing to listen, respond, and discuss the nature of our relationship in and with Christ.
