Seeking God’s Heart

Entry for March 17, 2008

Today’s Verse: Ephesians 4:17 But you did not learn Christ in this way, NASB

I was visiting with one of our godly women members last night before my son’s school play. She was telling me of how the couple who led her to Christ studied with her for another year after she was born again in baptism. She is so thankful that they didn’t do as all too often happens when folks are baptized and then left to their own devices and often their own vices. Wouldn’t be wonderful if when we rise up out of those cleansing waters forgiven (1 Peter 3:21) we were no longer tempted and sinned no more? My sister in Christ has, because of the teaching she received, been able to teach many more and lead them to Christ with confident understanding of God’s plan of salvation. That is the task we are to all be about as His disciples. We are to teach and lead others to be disciple making disciples. If someone were to ask you today why you believe in Jesus, what would you answer? If that question scares you because you don’t have confidence to answer, find a mature brother or sister who is teaching others and ask to go along that you to might learn. Ask your preacher or shepherds for Bible study material you can use to learn and use teach others. Jesus’ Lordship in our daily lives is not calling us just to be regular church attenders on Sunday mornings. He calls us to carry the Good News of God’s love and offer of grace and salvation to the world He has put each of us in. In today’s verse, Paul is talking about our walk as Christians. We are to be educated, not ignorant of God’s word. We are to be open to His guidance as He places people in our lives to reach out to in ministry and friendship, not be hardened of heart to His calling. We are to stand for what is right and godly and not fall prey or support impurity or greediness. We are to be luminaries (Philippians 2:15), reflectors of Christ’s light in the darkness, where the light is needed. Covenant today with God to grow in your faithfulness as His disciple to disciple others. Like Peter, it is ok to ask God for boldness. He promises to give you grace sufficient to the task (2 Corinthians 9:8) He calls you to this day. Avail upon Him for it in prayer and live this day for the Lord. May God bless you richly as you seek His heart.
